Mark Twain once said that “Habits are habitual and do not come out of the window by any person, but one step goes down at a time.” I have lived with these words, in my life, 12 have brought change and have made relevance (chocolate, shopping and cell phones among them), for one month per year, I really wrote a book on my experiences.

As I liked the month of a few months, I unfortunately complained as a combat mechanism. It was time to stop cutting and rebuild my life, thus I have come to accept another month’s challenge: I do not complain for the whole month. Or at least I’ll give it my best effort

As most parents agree, the complaint for complaint begins in the day. For me, it starts in the shower with that step, when the prolific children play peeping-bore with the curtain. After struggling more than the 30-day challenge, a lightbulb finally went: If I do not start complaining, I will not have to stop. If I went through the sophisticated work of the day, which was focused on finishing them quickly, then I reduced the window to cry.

I found a way to manage at least the urges: I changed my complaint with the music of some medical, Buddhist monks. And guess what? My day was better. I got into the train, and the Om, Namaste and the chanting of peace, together with zero complaints, made all the usual stop-cheerleading practices, birthday parties, soccer games and Cuba scout meetings. The melodious voice was given as a relaxation device and remembers as a reminder that neither Buddha nor Krishna nor Gandhi shout anyone who removes them in traffic. Like these spiritual teachers, I was living in the moment.

Finding that satisfying state was a bonus for my husband and children in the month: enriching my life and no complaints: They were very happy, too.
