Some Things Smart People Do not Say

Put these phrases in your vocabulary now

Emotionally intelligent people know that certain phrases get special powers – you get bad even if that word is correct. In this article, originally published on LinkedIn Pulse, Dr. Travis Bradberry shows you which 11 phrases to avoid

There are some things that you never want to say at work.

These phrases take special powers: Despite the truth of the words, you have a unique ability to feel bad.

Most of the time, they do not take them back once they leave.

I’m not talking about the tongue’s startling slippers, jokes of a closed color, or a politically incorrect faux-loop. This is not the only way to look bad on yourself

Often these are remarkable remarks – those people who paint us in disenchanted and unambiguously – which do the worst damage

There is no talent that you are so talented or what you have done, there are some words that instantly change the way people see them and always put you in negative light. These phrases are loaded with negative effects so that they can weaken the career in less order.

How many of these career killers have you heard recently around the office?

1. “This is not fair.”

Everyone knows that life is not fair. It is not justified that you feel that life is considered fair, from which you look immature and simple.

If you do not want to show yourself bad, you should stick to the facts, be creative and leave it your interpretation. For example, you might say, “I saw that you allocated N for the big project which I was hoping for. Would you like to tell me what went on in that decision? I would like to know that I Why did not I think I was a good fit, so I can work on improving those skills. ”

2. “It has always been done.”

Technology-fueled changes are taking place so fast that a 6 month old process can be outdated. It is saying that it is always done that you speak not only lazy and resistant to change, but it can surprise your boss why you have not tried to improve on your own. If you are actually doing those things completely, the way they have always done, then almost certainly a better way.

3. “There is no problem.”

When someone asks you to do something or to thank you for doing something, and you do not tell them any problems, then you are saying that their request should be a problem. It feels like people like they have put on you

Instead, show people that you are happy to do your job. Say something “it was my pleasure” or “I would be happy to take care of that.” This is a subtle difference in language, but which has a huge effect on people

4. “I think / this could be a silly idea / I’m going to ask a stupid question.”

Your credibility decreases in more inactive words. Even if you follow these phrases with a great idea, they suggest that you lack the confidence, so people have to speak to lose faith in you.

Do not be your own worst critic if you are not believing what you are saying, then there will be no one else. And if you really do not know anything, then say, “I do not know this information right now, but I will know and get back from you.”

5. “It will take only a minute.”

By saying something only a minute reduces your skills and gives the impression that you run through the work. Unless you are literally completing the work in 60 seconds, do not hesitate to say that it will not take long, but do not make it sound like the work can actually be completed as soon as it can be completed.

6. “I’ll try.”

Just like the word, try the temporary efforts and suggest that you lack the confidence in your ability to perform the task. Take full ownership of your capabilities. If you are asked to do something, then it is either committed to do or to provide a choice, but do not say that you will try because it seems that you will not try hard at all

7. “She is lazy / disabled / a shock.”

There is no reverse to make an abusive comment about a colleague. If your comment is correct, then everyone already knows this, so there is no need to point it out. If your comment is wrong, then you are the one who looks like a shock.

There will always be harsh or inefficient people in any workplace, and everyone knows who they are, if you do not have the power to help them improve or set them on fire, then nothing you can achieve by broadcasting their disqualifications. is. Your partner’s declaration of inefficiency comes in the form of an insecure effort to make you look better. Your sympathy will inevitably come back to bother you as negative thoughts of your colleagues.

8. “This is not in my job description.”

This often sarcastic phrase gives you sound as if you are ready to do only the minimum minimum to get a paycheck, which is a bad thing if you want job security.

If your boss tells you to do something that you feel is inappropriate for your situation (contrary to ethical or morally inappropriate), then the best step is to complete the job eagerly afterwards, your role in the company To discuss, schedule a conversation with your boss and whether your job description needs to be updated. This ensures that you avoid being seen with a little. It also enables you and your boss to develop a long-term understanding of what you should and should not do.

9. “This is not my fault.”

It is not a good idea to blame but be responsible. If you have a role, whatever is wrong, it is itself. If not, then provide an explanation of what happened, its purpose. Stick to the facts, and let your boss and colleagues know their own responses to who is responsible.

The moment you point fingers, it is the moment that people start watching you as people who lack accountability for their actions. This makes people frightened that some people will be completely prevented from working with you, and others will strike first and you will blame if something goes wrong.

10. “I can not.”

I can not do it is not my twisted brother, my people do not like to hear because I can think that it means that I will not do it. Saying that I can not suggest that you are not ready to do what is necessary to work.

If you can not really do anything because you really lack the required skills, then you need to provide alternative solutions. Instead of saying what you can not do, say what you can do, for example, instead of saying, “I can not stay late tonight,” I say, “I can come early in the morning. Instead of “I can not run those numbers”, “I do not even know what kind of analysis to run? Is there someone who can show me that I will do it next time on my own Can I do it? ”

11. “I hate this work.”

After all, anyone wants to listen to the work, someone complains how much they hate their job. It labels you as a negative person and brings down the morale of the group. The owners have accelerated to catch those navies which pull the morale, and they know there are enthusiastic replacements waiting around the corner.

Ending these phrases with your vocabulary gives a dividend that they tend to sneak up on you, so you do not have to catch yourself unless you consolidate the habit of telling them.
